Steel engraving, 114 x 86 mm (sheet size). Published by Rock & Co. London, c.1850s. St Peter's Church and green with the wooden lock-up standing on the church green. Lock ups such as this one were used in small communities to hold criminals for short periods of time, until they could be brought to justice or until they sobered up. St Peter's Church is seen as it was prior to its restoration by Lord Grimthorpe in 1893.
Compare with lithograph 1982.2223 also showing lock-up here.
