Rye House Herts … Excursions Daily (c 1880). Three-colour chromo-lithographed poster, printed by F Waller, London. In 1864 a scheme was launched to convert Rye House into a resort modelled on London pleasure gardens like the Cremorne. Despite the railway from Liverpool Street which provided the 'excursion', its success was limited, but the Rye House Inn remains today.
See 1994.271; 1994.272 for other images of The Rye House. 2006.5832 is another similar (but different!) poster.
