"The Hollies", house on the site now occupied by the Seventh Day Adventist Church on the corner of St Peter's Street and Carlisle Avenue. Note the blue police box on the far left of the shot. This was the former home of Richard Gibbs (1834-1909), mayor of St Albans in 1888. Richard Gibbs and his father, also named Richard, ran a printing company in St Albans and founded the Herts Advertiser newspaper in 1855. The company later became Gibbs and Bamforth after the younger Richard Gibbs went into partnership with his brother John Bamforth in 1874. Richard Gibbs was elected a Town Councilor in 1887 and mayor of St Albans in 1888. He was elected County Councilor the following year, in 1889. He lived at "The Hollies," on St Peter's Street from c.1882. He died in 1909 and is buried in Hatfield Road Cemetery.
