CD 814
Archaeology (Verulamium Museum)
  • Verulamium Museum Artefacts
Roman limestone coffin lined in lead containing an adult human skeleton, from Park Street Villa. Two of these coffins, each made from a single block of limestone and lined in lead, were found st Park Street villa. Because of the close proximity of the two burials, it is assumed that they were husband and wife. This coffin, which held the 'husband' also contains an unusual long glass flask, seen in this photograph. Both coffins and skeletons are on display in Verulamium Museum.
