Watercolour by J.H. Buckingham showing a road passing through the River Ver near to the old Cotton Mill. In the foreground a man rides a horse which is drinking from the river while behind him hay is being gathered. In the distance to the left, the Sopwell Ruins are visible. Hay was a valuable commodity with the demands of London's horses nearby - the equivalent of the petrol supply.
