Archaeology (Verulamium Museum)
  • Verulamium Museum Artefacts
Reconstruction of a typical kitchen in Roman Britain using original Roman pottery, mortaria and cooking pots, a rotary quernstone (bottom left), and black burnished ware bowls. The woman in the kitchen is dressed in the style worn by the native British population from around AD 1 to 150. This consists of a tight fitting dress with a looser tunic over the top, held in place by a pair of brooches at the shoulders and a girdle around the waist. This reconstruction is on display at Verulamium Museum in St Albans.
