Monochrome postcard showing view looking up Chequer Street, St Albans towards town centre and the Old Town Hall with policeman standing in the road. The Cross Keys pub, stands on the corner in the right foreground, and the sign for the Queen's Hotel can be seen a few buildings further up on the same side of the street. Hallam's Hardware Stores stands on the left hand corner opposite the Cross Keys. This shop suffered a fire in 1889 and was subsequently rebuilt and extended. Postmarked London Colney, [month] 1st, 1916.
