Replica Tudor chafing dish/food warmer from the St Albans Museums teaching collection. Hot charcoal would have been placed in it, and another pot rested on the lugs standing up from the rim. This gave a gentle heat for keeping food warm, or preparing dishes such as custards, medicines etc.
