Front cover of The Sphere newspaper, from August 29, 1903 with a portrait of Robert Arthur Talbot Gascoyne-Cecil, Third Marquess of Salisbury, K.G., on the occasion of his death. Lord Gascoyne-Cecil (3 February 1830 – 22 August 1903) was Prime Minister of the United Kingdom three times between 1885 and 1902. The Salisbury family descend from Sir Robert Cecil (b. 1 June 1563 – d.24 May 1612) who purchased and rebuilt Hatfield House. Hatfield House has been the home of the Cecil family ever since.
