Replica Saxon/Medieval horn mug

Replica horn mug from the St Albans Museums teaching collection. This type of mug would have been used from the Saxon period through to the post-medieval period. Horn is a cheap material and is easily shaped as it softens when soaked in hot water. These are rarely preserved archaeologically or mentioned in documents.
