Line block illustration of Water End house, Sandridge. Not signed, no date. The Waterend Barn, now in the centre of St Albans, was originally part of Water End Farm. Water End House was the home of the Jennings Family, including Sarah Jennings (1660- 1744), later to become Duchess of Marlborough when she married John Churchill, Duke of Marlborough (1650- 1722). The Churchills' residences included Holywell House, which once stood at the bottom of Holywell Hill, St. Albans. Sarah also funded the construction of the Marlborough Almshouses on Hatfield Road.
