Monochrome postcard showing St Albans Clock Tower viewed across High Street through Waxhouse Gate looking towards Market Place and French Row. Note Market Cross fountain and horse-drawn wagons. The drinking fountain in front of the Clock Tower was designed in the 1870's by Sir Gilbert Scott and paid for by Mrs. Worley, a keen teatotaller. It was removed in the 1920's when it got in the way of traffic. The fountain has since been moved from in front of the Clock Tower to the rear of the Old Prison on Grimston Road. No postmark.
