Social History (Museum of St Albans)

Replica Tudor drug jar, tinglazed earthernware from the St Albans Museums teaching collection. This sort of pot was used for spices, treacle etc. Fragments have been found on excavations in St Albans but no complete vessels. It would have been imported, possibly with the contents and would have been relatively expensive. A parchment cover would have been tied on.
