Monochrome postcard showing St Albans Clock Tower viewed from across High Street looking up Market Place with bicycles parked outside the Clock Tower and horse-drawn carts in the street. Note Market Cross fountain on the right. The drinking fountain in front of the Clock Tower was designed in the 1870's by Sir Gilbert Scott and paid for by Mrs. Worley, a keen teatotaller. It was removed in the 1920's when it got in the way of traffic. The fountain has since been moved from in front of the Clock Tower to the rear of the Old Prison on Grimston Road. No postmark.
