Roman Samian ware cup. From Turnershall Farm excavations, near Wheathampstead, Hertfordshire. Samian cups could have been used as drinking vessels or as serving bowls fro Roman food. Samain was produced on an enormous scale in factories in Gaul, with the products being traded around the Roman world, especially northern Europe
