Monochrome photographic print, 198 x 131 mm. Interior view of Ryders Seeds in St Albans, showing women at work packing seeds while a man (far left) oversees their work. The date 1920 is written on the reverse of the photograph but the women's dress suggests an earlier date, c.1905. The name 'G. Lucas' is also written on the reverse. Samuel Ryder made his fortune founding Ryders Seeds, he opened offices and a floral hall for his seed company (the latter better known today as Café Rouge). He is best remembered, however, as founder of the Ryder Cup.
