Wood engraving illustration cut from a newspaper, after a photograph by Russell and Son, 158 x 122 mm. A portrait of Sir John Blundell Maple. published in 1903 on the occasion of his death, with the caption: "The Late Sir John Blundell Maple, whose death creates a Parliamentary vacancy at Dulwich". Sir John Blundell Maple (1845 - 1903) made his fortune through the Maple furniture business, which he founded. He was also a racehorse owner. He lived in Childwickbury, near St Albans and founded the Sisters Hospital and Clarence Park in St Albans. He was a good friend of the future Edward VII, and MP for Dulwich.
