Wood engraving, after a photograph by Mons. A. Boucher of Brighton, 91 x 70 mm. A portrait of Sir John Blundell Maple, hand dated bottom right 1896. Sir John Blundell Maple (1845 - 1903) made his fortune through the Maple furniture business, which he founded. He was also a racehorse owner. He lived in Childwickbury, near St Albans and founded the Sisters Hospital and Clarence Park in St Albans. He was a good friend of the future Edward VII, and MP for Dulwich.
