H.P. Smith's straw hat factory, Victoria Street, St Albans, 1920s. Grace Fitzjohn (nee Butterfield) was the forelady of the factory and can be seen on the left of this photograph. When she married in 1924, they moved into a rented cottage on Old London Road owned by H.P. Smith. Kindly loaned to St Albans Museums for reproduction and inclusion in this image database from the family collection of Mrs M. Wickens (nee Fitzjohn).
