Watercolour wash over pencil drawing of "Holywell House, St. Albans" which once stood at the bottom of Holywell Hill, St Albans. Holywell House was one of the residences of John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough (1650- 1722) and his wife Sarah, neé Jennings (1660- 1744). It was demolished in 1837. Sarah Churchill, Duchess of Marlborough, also funded the construction of the Marlborough Almshouses on Hatfield Road in 1736, after her husband's death.
