Gorhambury House was built by the 3rd Viscount Grimston in 1777 - 84 to the designs of Sir Robert Taylor. The ruins of the previous Elizabethan house at Gorhambury, built in 1563 - 68 by Sir Nichola Bacon (father of Sir Francis Bacon) stand nearby.
