Tudor earthenware jug, some sherds missing & restored with plaster patches. Excavated from Belmont Hill, 1980. This type of red earthenware with specks and patches of glaze, (in this case on the inside and outside of the rim and neck), was common in 16th century St Albans. It was probably made locally, was very cheap and is never mentioned in wills, although large quantities have been excavated. They would have been found in the kitchens of both rich and poor.
