Roman bronze statue. This is a representation of the goddess Venus, with cloak knotted about loins and streaming out behind. She holds an apple or pomegranate held in left hand and her hair is gathered into two bows. The thumb of her right hand has been restored. The Verulamium Venus is an outstanding example in bronze of a goddess from a household shrine. The figure may represent Venus or Persephone, goddess of the underworld.
