Roman Ceramic Lamp Chimney. The chimney is of funnel shape with six stages, each with approximately triangular piercings. Incised decoration divided obliquely by scored bands. This lamp chimney has been heavily restored. This decorative chimney from a lamp was found on the site of a temple situated inside the city where the main road from London divided into two. Known as the triangular temple (although the floor plan is actually trapezoidal), it was probably dedicated to a fertility goddess of eastern origin known as Cybele, and her consort Attis. Followers of this cult believed that Attis had been resurrected from the dead, and initiates of this cult hoped to achieve immortality.
