Monochrome photograph of a row of old buildings on the High Street, Harpenden, around the area of Bowers Parade. These include (right to left): 'Jasmine Cottage', Line's Smithy and the old Leather Bottle public house. A small cart or trap can be seen in front of the buildings. Note also the telegraph pole, presumably a relatively new addition to this view. On the other side of 'Jasmine Cottage' was the Forresters Arms, a series of thatched cottages (demolished in 1936), the village pond and Bowers House (from which Bowers Parade, Bowers Way and Bowers Yard get their names). Kindly loaned to St Albans Museums for reproduction and inclusion in this image database by Harpenden Local History Society.
Compare with Kitton drawing "The Leather Bottle, Harpenden.": PX 3055.
