Interior of Napsbury Hospital in London Colney, near St Albans, taken in July 1995. Napsbury Hospital in London Colney was founded in 1898, designed in 1900 and opened in 1905. It was one of a number of mental hospitals built in Hertfordshire for patients from the Middlesex area, and was also used as a military hospital during the First World War. Although Napsbury suffered some bomb damaged in the Blitz, it continued to be used as a hospital until it closed in 1999.
