1st Battle of St. Albans Re-enactment 22nd May 2005. Re-enactors at St Peter's Street, St Albans. The First Battle of St Albans was fought in and around St Peter's Street St Albans on May 22nd, 1455. It was the opening battle of the Wars of the Roses and a victory for the Yorkists, led by Richard Mortimer, Duke of York, against the Lancastrians, who were loyal to King Henry VI.
