Monument to Sir George Hewett, Bart., d1689, in Sawbridgeworth Church. Engraving by Jan Drapentier, from Henry Chauncy's History of Hertfordshire (1700). This elaborate life-size black and white marble monument, which survives today, shows the deceased as a military man with a well-developed ego. In reality Sir George was the lord of the manor at Pishiobury House, near Sawbridgeworth, and was rewarded for service in Ireland by the gift of two minor titles: Baron of Jamestown, County Longford, and Viscount of Gowran, County Kilkenny. He died aged 37, without a male heir.
According to Oxford Dictionary of National Biography, Drapentier fl. 1674–1713.
