Billboard advertisements at the junction of Camp Road and Camp View Road,1955., with cyclists in the foreground. Note the signpost pointing the way to Hill End Hospital. Behind it flies the famous Guiness Toucan. This cartoon bird was invented by John Gilroy in 1935, and was particularly popular in the 1950s. It featured most memorably in the Guinness Clock at the Festival of Britain. This photograph is from the St Albans Council Street Survey carried out in the 1955.
