Monochrome postcard showing an illustration depciting the maryrdom of St Alban. Accompanying text reads: "In 304 the Diocletian persecutions were raging. Alban, a Roman of Verulam (now St Albans), sheltered a Christian, and aiding him in his escape, gave himself up in his place. Refusing to sacrifice to Roman gods, Alban was beheaded, thus, becoming - 'England's first martyr, whom no threats could shake, Self-offered victim, for his friend he died." No postmark.
