Newspaper article from The Advertiser and Times by F.G.Kitton entitled "The Vanishing of Old St Albans. A Plea for the Picturesque." with an open letter "To Messrs Boots and Co" and petition against the demolition of the buiding popularly known as "The Gables". This building was occupied at this time by Boots' Chemists. Above the article is an illustration by Kitton entitled "In the Market Place, St Albans." showing the view from the top of Market Place looking towards 'The Gables', French Row, St Albans Clock Tower and St Albans Abbey on market day. This illustration was published several times in different publications. Signed F.G.Kitton, Aug. 21st 1899.
