Watercolour by J.H.Buckingham showing a view down Camp Lane with road repairs being carried out on the right hand side and a woman and child walking along the road. At this time the road only ran through open fields. The Camp is said to derive its name from the Hertfordshire Militia using this open area to camp. An 1898 map shows the area largely occupied by the Campfield Printing Works and Sander's Orchid Nurseries. Note the similarity in composition between this work and 1981.3852.
