A view looking down St Peter's Street, St Albans in naive perspective towards 'The Gables', St Albans Clock Tower and the Abbey with numerous pedestrians on the pavement and horse-drawn vehicles, one covered, one open, on the road. In the foreground . On either side of the main illustration are the coat of arms of St Albans. Text below the illustration reads: "Prominent on the pages on history are the events that have occured at St Albans. Here in 1455 Richard of York defeated Henry VI in a famous battle and here the great chancellor Bacon lived and died. The grand abbey church is dedicated to St Albans memory."
