Watercolour by J.H. Buckingham showing sheep shearers resting on their midday meal break. They appear to be resting against a pile of fleeces, presumably sheared that morning. Cherries were once one of the main crops of Hertfordshire and every farm had an orchard. It was common to keep sheep in orchards to keep down the grass which ensured better crops of fruit.
