Engrvaing showing the South prospect of Hatfield House 272 feet long (1700) by Thomas Sadler; engraving by J Collins printed on two joined sheets of paper. Hatfield House, the seat of James Cecil Earl of Salisbury, was only 90 years old when this huge print was made. It is seen as it was built, with the eight 'onion' turrets at the corners of the east and west wings. The house cost Robert Cecil, the first Earl, the stupendous sum of £40,000 to build between 1607 and 1612.
