Tudor Raeren stoneware mug. From 4a Chequer Street1966. These are the sort of mugs painted by Peter Brueghel in the hands of peasants. They became so cheap that the even superseded wooden mugs. Stoneware is a kind of pottery fired at a very high temperature so that the clay vitrifies and is no longer porous. Earthenware is porous unless it is glazed.
