These pottery bottles are made of the same local glazed red earthenware as the dripping dish and bowl, the commonest and probably the cheapest variety of pottery to be bought in Tudor St Albans. Their shape, with one flat and one domed side, would have made them easy to lay down on a flat surface, while the handles would have allowed them to be tied to hook, belt, or saddle.
