Card sent from Buckingham Palace on behalf of King George V in memorial of the life of Private. William John Fairy, a soldier from St Albans killed in the First World War after being fatally injured at Ypres in September 1917. The card bears the royal coat of arms and reads: "I join with my grateful people in sending you this memorial of a brave life given for others in the Great War."
