Lorica Segmentata. Several of these iron plates from a legionary's body armour, lorica segmentata, were found in a pit outside the town. Although Roman military equipment has been found at Verulamium, there is little evidence that any troops were based here. Most finds are probably from troops passing through the town on their way to the north and west of Britain. Other military finds from Verulamium and the surrounding area include body armour, shield bindings, lead slingshots and bronze fittings from cavalry horse harnesses.
