Caption from "St Albans in Old Photos", p.62-3, reads: "Maddox's shop, St Peter's Street, decorated for Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee.[22nd September, 1896]". The two bearded men standing in front of the shop are its owner, George Maddox (to the left, wearing an apron) and his brother James. On the far right is Jane Maddox, wife of George. The little boy in the upstairs window is John Maddox, son of George and Jane."
