Watercolour by J.H. Buckingham showing Volunteers marching up St Stephen's Hill towards the top end of what is now the park. The red uniforms on the left would suggest the Yeomanry Corps or the Hertfordshire Militia; the rest must be the Rifle Volunteers. The Crimean War could be their destination. The public seem to be accomodated in some kind of stand on the right of the picture, in what was known as the 'Gas Field', where the Gas Works were built in the 1830's at the bottom of Holywell Hill. St Albans Abbey stands at the top of the hill in the distance and the field to the left appears to be the area now occupied by Westminster Lodge leisure centre and the Abbey Theatre.
