Watercolour by J.H.Buckingham showing the inmates of the workhouse being treated to a meal being held under cover on what appears to be King Harry Meadow. A sign on the pole reads "FRIENDS WE THANKYOU". Resting against the hamper in the bottom left of the image are several long clay 'churchwarden' pipes to be handed out. Smoking was considered to be healthy and even boys were encouraged to smoke.
